Last week I missed my weekly paddle so it was almost two weeks to the day when I wheeled the kayak down to the beach on a grey but calm morning. It would be a 20 kilometre day. If we aren’t surfing or doing a downwinder, it’s a 20 kilometre day. I went south for no good reason other than downwind season is coming and we always go north on those days.
Near Circuit Beach, I noticed a very odd looking boat about a kilometre off-shore. It was, of course, Project Interrupt, the boat built from marine debris by Samuel McLennan from Tasmania. After a chat, and me taking photos of him (with permission) and Samuel taking pictures of me (also with permission), I continued south.
It was lumpy, bumpy and strangely reminiscent of the day we paddled north from Dunk Island recently. The sort of day you think “This is going to take forever.” It wasn’t forever, but it was a slow 20 kilometres. As often happens, I was tempted to stop early, but, as always happens, I didn’t.
